Funeral services for Reverend Wilbur Buford Creech, 83, of Barnwell, SC will be held three p.m., Monday, October 12, 2015 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with burial at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Barnwell, SC. The family will receive friends from three to five p.m., Sunday, October 11th at the funeral home. Reverend Creech passed away Friday, October 9, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sleytown, SC (Barnwell County) he was a son of the late John Floyd Creech and Giulia Still Creech. He was a graduate of Barnwell High School, North Greenville Junior College, Florida Baptist Theological College (BBI), Graceville, FL and William Carey Baptist College, Hattiesburg, MS. He was a US Army Veteran having served during the Korean War, a member of Friendship Baptist Church and the Hilda Masonic Lodge # 426. On June 30, 1957 at Friendship Baptist Church he was ordained into the gospel ministry. He has been a minister of the gospel for more than 58 years having served for: Fellowship Baptist Church, Hartford, AL, George’s Creek Baptist Church (served two different times), Bamberg County, Oral Baptist Church, Summerall, MS, Adam’s Run Baptist Church, Adams Run, SC, Midway Baptist Church, Hemingway, SC, Carter’s Chapel, Georgetown, SC, Pee Dee Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, SC, Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church, Cope, SC and Rehobeth Baptist Church, Piedmont, SC, Crestview Baptist Church, Orangeburg, SC and Olar First Baptist Church, Olar, SC. After retiring, he served as interim and supply pastor for many other churches in South Carolina. He served as associate chaplain for the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg for 25 years, as chaplain for Charleston, Florence, Greenville and Augusta, GA area hospitals for many years. He also served as the chaplain for Barnwell County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Myrtle Hair Creech of the home; his children, Steve (Beth) Creech of Neeses, Mark Creech and his dear friend, Bob Cothran of Williston, Tabitha Russell of Barnwell, and Becky (Jim) Christopher of Cope; grandchildren, Dana Gartman, Gene (Amanda) Gartman, K. C. (Brandon) Jackson, Chris Gartman, Stephanie (Jeramy) Coker, Nicholas Russell, Dillon Walling, Landon Christopher; great grandchildren, Alexis, Shonté, J. T., Tre Felder, Aubrey Coker, Isaac Jackson, Jayden Shealy, Jasmin, Kirsten, Ayden Gartman; sisters, Delores C. Fail of Barnwell, Bobbie Jean Proveaux of Olar and Sarah Williams; brothers-in-law, Corey (Brenda) Hair of Allendale and Mike Roach of Barnwell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fulmer Creech and a sister, Jannie Roach.
