A Graveside Funeral Service for Otis Kemp Smith, Jr. 88, of Barnwell, SC will be held two pm Sunday July 20, 2014 at Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery 1926 Hwy 26 E Cochran, Ga. 31014, with military honors accorded. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
Born in Foreman, Ark. he was a son of the late Otis Kemp Smith, Sr. and Ola E. Glover Smith. He was a US Army Veteran having served in World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Smith was recipient of a silver star, two bronze stars and a purple heart. He retired having worked for Spartan Security, Pinkerton Detective Agency and was a police officer in Atlanta for eight years and in Barnwell for nine years. He also worked as a farmer, log and pulpwood driver.
Survivors include daughters, Wanda Hutto of Varnville, Brenda Sue Smith of Barnwell and Linda Ann Smith (Carlo Berardo) of Lexington; son, Otis Kenneth Smith of Barnwell; grandchildren, Travis Scott Smith, Tonja Llona (Ryan) Bailey, James Otis Mayberry; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Ann Wright, Patsy Jane, Betty Sue; brothers, Billy Dale Smith, Thomas E. Smith, “Donnie” Smith.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald O’Neal Baxley, Jr., sisters, Lola Jean Stewart and Hazel Lee Fairchild.
